Sailing Conditions & Safety
Sailing License
While no formal license is required for most sailboats, the charter company will require proof of competency. A VHF certificate is mandatory.
Life Jackets
It is legally required that all children under 12 wear a life jacket. It is strongly recommended for everyone on board.
Cold Water Safety
Water temperatures are cold even in summer. A wetsuit or drysuit is recommended for any extended time in the water. Hypothermia is a real risk.
Local Knowledge
Navigation requires careful attention due to many rocks and skerries. Only experienced boaters should attempt longer, open-water passages.
